Description

The book “Salt of the Earth” was launched in 2014. Photographed by David Penprase, he and his wife Jan had taken images over 160 individuals and groups. Together with other dedicated volunteers, they collated short biographies from each person/ group. A powerful living record of the fishing town of Newlyn. The book sold 1,000s of copies and made a donation of over £38,000 for the Fishermen’s Mission. This Hard Back version was 1 of 50, new and a wonderful collectors item. Within the pages, of the many character filled locals characters, it includes Olympian rower Helen Glover and Rugby International Jack Nowell.

Then in 2018, a follow up book to Salt of the Earth, this time set on the North Coast of Cornwall with a new volunteer team. Photographed by Chris Hewitt and short narratives recorded and edited by Deborah Richards they have created another true reflection of the fishing communities. A limited edition was made for the Hard Back and this is a new copy, again 1 of 50. To date the book has made a donation of just over £30,000 (again for the charity the Fishermen’s Mission) and this a testimony to the quality, hard work and fellow dedication of all the volunteers who made this book. The introduction is by Rick Stein OBE and it features many other well known characters the Fisherman’s Friends and chefs; Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth.

Gifted by the Padstow Bookseller, we are delighted to feature the signed hard back book “Sea of Storms”. New but already acclaimed illustrated book of the shipwrecks of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Written and illustrated by Richard Larn OBE and Oliver Hurst. The foreword is written by the founder of the Eden Project, Sir Tim Smit. The book captured the agony of loss; the ever-present jeopardy that accompanies marine adventures. Their stories live on in this very well presented book.

The combined price brand new is £125.
